Tai Chi
While at Bristol university studying for a B.Sc. in microbiology during the period 1980 -'83, I obtained a white belt in Wadu Ryu Japanese federation Karate as part of the extra curricular activity there. After being diagnosed with Schizophrenia at Aston university while studying for an M.Sc. in Information technology, I moved back to Bristol. I received a punctured liver outside a nightclub in the city in 1985 which prompted me to take up semi contact Karate. I obtained a red belt. Several beatings by a Lao Gar Kung Fu club in Saint Pauls in Bristol made me redirect my thoughts to something less competitive in the form of learning Tai Chi from books. I had previously decided that Aikido was also a bad idea as several lessons gave me the impression that a lack of concentration and coordination as the result of my mental illness and puncture wound could possibly be a liability. I had heard that a student of Judo had become paralyzed from the neck down.
Since then I have collected a number of books on Tai Chi which I will list here.
I am at present learning Dr. Chi's Tai Chi short form at Petroc technical college in Barnstaple, Devon, UK.
